Every quilter has fabric scraps s/he has accumulated and is seeking projects to utilize them. Here are 29 patterns of various quilt sizes organized by color, but offers alternate color suggestions. "Light & Bright" includes 30's reproduction fabrics and pastels. "Rich & Warm" uses gorgeous fall colors, patriotics, and even a Halloween quilt. "Modern Makeover" offers blacks and pinks, denim, geometrics and even includes a pattern called "My Guy" using plaids and browns. There are patterns for all skill-levels and tips from the pros are sprinkled throughout, as well as a short chapter on making and using templates, mitering borders, attaching appliques, cutting bias strips, and making and attaching the binding. A double-sided removable sheet is at the back that includes nine full-size template patterns. Thirteen quilt patterns using favorite blocks - Sawtooth Star, Log Cabin, Flying Geese, Hour Glass, Four Patch, Ohio Star, a House block, Bear Paw - combined together to appear intricate but are actually not. She uses strip sets and a neat, quick, cheater method for making Flying Geese. Fabrics shown are current and colorful but not blinding. Each chapter begins with her explanation of how she came about to make that particular quilt. The usual General Instructions on quilt-making are included. If nothing else you'll love browsing through the photos. Recommended for those who especially like the traditional patterns in soothing colors using cotton fabrics - no geometrics, batiks, or loud colors here. -- recommended by Charlotte K. - Bennett Martin Public Library

Step-by-step instructions for completing 40 quilted holiday projects. Excellent projects for the beginner but enduring patterns to attract the long-time quilter as well. You'll find patterns for wall-hangings, small decorative pillows, hanging stockings, ornaments, and small quilts all in the folk art homespun style. Excellent, clear basic instructions including how to tea dye if you wish. Applique patterns at the back of the book are large enough to photocopy. Angels, Santas, snowmen, hearts, cats, stars, and holiday messages are among the basic designs. Also a section on decorative embroidery stitches. Great ideas for colors, and I especially liked viewing the mantle decorations. Includes the standard Quilting Basics instructions at the beginning, and applique patterns to copy. Illustrations and photos on every page. You'll refer to this book again and again. If nothing else browse through it for the gorgeous illustrations of quilt blocks and quilts.
