If I Run by Terri Blackstock (audiobook)

If I Run
by Terri Blackstock [Compact Disc Blackstock]

I love this author. This suspense story kept me listening ’til the end. A young woman is wanted for a murder she didn’t commit. She’s running from the same people her father tried to elude, and hopes to avoid his fate. He was murdered. I look forward to the next ones in the series. # 2 is If I’m Found, and #3 will be If I Live.

[If you enjoy this, you may also wish to try Traces of Guilt, an Evie Blackwell Cold Case series, by Dee Henderson, Dark Pursuit, by Brandilyn Collins or Vanish, a Private Justice series novel, by Irene Hannon. Also the Angels Walking trilogy, by Karen Kingsbury is excellent.]

What the Dead Know by Laura Lippman (audiobook)

What the Dead Know
by Laura Lippman [Compact Disc Lippman]

A disoriented woman comes from a car crash, claiming to be one of two sisters who disappeared from a shopping mall thirty years ago. She knows a lot about the sisters, yet she seems more guilty of hiding something. I couldn’t wait to find out if she was who she said she was, and I was almost certain she was telling the truth, even though some could not believe her. I am so glad I finished the story. It was well worth my time.

[If you enjoy this, you may also wish to try Grand Delusion, a Jacob Burns mystery, by Matt Witten, the works of Kate Atkinson, the works of Robert Crais, or another by Laura Lippman: Every Secret Thing, or In a Strange City, part of the Tess Monaghan series]

Signed, Sealed, Delivered: From the Heart (on DVD)

Signed, Sealed, Delivered: From the Heart
[DVD From]

Martha Williamson brings another great story about the Postables team that does a thorough job delivering long lost letters and packages. From the Heart tells the story of a 200-year-old valentine which could change history if it gets delivered. I have my name on Hold for the next movie in the series. It is called “Signed, Sealed, Delivered: Lost Without You,” and lists the “author” as Eric Mabius (an actor in these popular Hallmark Movies & Mysteries channel movies.)

[If you enjoy this, you may also wish to try Murder She Baked, based on a mystery series by Joanne Fluke; A Bone to Pick (Aurora Teagarden mystery); and the other Signed, Sealed, Delivered series movies, includingSigned, Sealed, Delivered: The Complete Series, Signed, Sealed, Delivered for Christmas (2014), One in a Million (2016) or From Paris With Love (2017). Other TV series you might enjoy: The Middle, and Last Man Standing.]

Signed, Sealed, Delivered: One in a Million (on DVD)

Signed, Sealed, Delivered: One in a Million
[DVD One]

One in a Million is another Martha Williamson story continuing the Hallmark comedy-drama series. The persistent team of postal employees go to great lengths to deliver lost mail and succeed every time they try. Our family enjoys catching up on the progress of the relationships between team members. My husband had two government careers which he really enjoyed. He delivered mail in downtown Lincoln for the U.S. Postal Service in the late 1960’s. His other career was with the USDA.

[If you enjoy this, you may also wish enjoy the other TV-movies in this series: Signed, Sealed, Delivered: The Complete Series, From Paris With Love, For Christmas or From the Heart. Other good TV series include Touched by an Angel, The Middle, and Parenthood.]

Signed, Sealed, Delivered: From Paris With Love (on DVD)

Signed, Sealed, Delivered: From Paris With Love
[DVD From]

From Paris with Love, from 2015, continues the Hallmark stories of the fictional postal lost letter department team, as seen in Signed, Sealed, Delivered the movie, the series, and more made for TV movies. This “series” is one of our family all-time favorites. I never tire of watching these family-friendly stories with some comedy, drama, and a little light romance. It brings back good memories partly because my husband worked for the U.S. Postal Service for half of his career. Each character has his or her own lovable quirks, and they get some pretty interesting mail delivered every time, although some of it has been lost for five to ten years or more!.

[If you enjoy this, you may also wish to try Signed, Sealed, Delivered: The Complete Series, Signed, Sealed, Delivered for Christmas (2014), One in a Million (2016) or From the Heart (2017). Other TV series you might enjoy: The Middle, and Last Man Standing.]

Signed, Sealed, Delivered for Christmas (on DVD)

Signed, Sealed, Delivered for Christmas
[DVD Signed]

We enjoyed the Signed, Sealed, Delivered made-for-TV movie and TV series so much, and have seen all of the related movies since. My husband delivered mail in Lincoln during college at UNL, and later returned as a mail handler for the USPS. These stories are full of good fun and humor, with a little bit of mystery and light romance included. I’m pretty sure I would not get bored watching one of these movies every day, if I had the time!.

[If you enjoy this, you may also wish enjoy the other TV-movies in this series: From Paris With Love, One in a Million or From the Heart. The pilot and 10-episode series preceded this volume.]

Parenthood (the series on DVD)

Parenthood
[DVD Parenthood]

One of our favorite TV series was Parenthood, produced by Ron Howard and others. We always enjoyed the family situations, including drama, laughter and more. Every actor did a wonderful job portraying a character, who we grew very fond of, so we were quite disappointed when this show ended, after six seasons. We would truly miss seeing these people.

The Light Between Oceans (on DVD)

The Light Between Oceans

[DVD Light]

We saw the movie video The Light between Oceans last week. It tells the story of a lighthouse keeper, living on an isolated island, who finds a baby in a boat near the shore. (There was a man in the boat who had died.) This all complicates the lives of the keeper and his wife. I felt is was really well done, and its the first time I’ve ever enjoyed a movie more than the book. (Before I always thought a book was better than the movie, yet this time, the book was good, the movie was Great!)

The Chance by Karen Kingsbury

The Chance
by Karen Kingsbury [Kingsbury]

The Chance is a nice little romantic story, about a couple who has not seen each other in years. They promise to meet on a certain day years after hiding letters to one another. They are a little bit cautious about what will happen and if the other one will show up. Long ago I decided not to read romance novels, yet after finding Kingsbury and other Christian fiction authors, I found several favorite authors that I really enjoy.

[If you enjoy this, you may also wish to try The Bridge, by Kingsbury, or others by Kingsbury or Janette Oke, and the tv-movie Signed, Sealed, Delivered and the series of that name, produced by Martha Williamson (past producer of Touched By An Angel); I believe there was also a Christmas-themed special episode of that series, too.]

Angels Walking by Karen Kingsbury

Angels Walking
by Karen Kingsbury [Kingsbury]

Karen Kingsbury is one of my favorite authors. This is the first of three books in her “Angels Walking” series. These books are a little different from how I imagined things, yet they are fiction and I enjoyed them very much. If you like Christian fiction, or you liked Heaven Is For Real, you might try this one.

The Winner by David Baldacci

The Winner
by David Baldacci [Baldacci]
If you’ve never read David Baldacci, this may be a good place to start. The Winner is a fictional story about how and why a naive young lady wins the lottery and what becomes of her. A devious man recruits her and helps her win. This story is suspenseful and kept my interest.

The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah

The Nightingale
by Kristin Hannah

I don’t often read war-time historical fiction, yet this book was so good that I had to finish it. Two sisters and their family are living in France during the second world war and they must do some uncomfortable things to help the Allied cause, especially after a German officer decides to stay in their home. Near the end of the story the author flashes ahead to a time when they are much older. This book was really interesting and I felt many emotions. I look forward to reading more of Ms Hannah’s works.

The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto by Mitch Albom (on CD)

The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto
by Mitch Albom [Compact Disc Albom]

The author uses vivid imagination to inspire and inform the reader of this great fictional guitarist. I had empathy for Frankie; several important family secrets were kept from him for much of his “life”. The mention of celebrated musicians he met and worked with gives a feeling of authenticity. I’ve read that he has become so well-known that some think he was real. His story is read by a host of talented people, as it is told from many perspectives. You may just recognize several of the readers, and that’s another reason I liked the story.

(If you enjoy this, you may also wish to try Richard Paul Evans, Nicholas Sparks, John GroganPaulo Coehlo, or Diana Athill’s biography Somewhere Towards the End, or other works by Albom, particularly The Five People You Meet in Heaven.)

Project Almanac on DVD

Project Almanac [DVD Project]

This movie, rated PG-13, was very entertaining. We all agreed we want to watch it again later this year. It is a Science Fiction Action Adventure. If you like time travel or teenage situations, you might like this. If you like geek techno-invention movies you would probably enjoy this movie. If you like suspense or thrillers you might want to try it.

This TV series is hilarious. It involves Ed O'Neill's character and his wife, played by Sofia Vergara and their children and grandchildren. Hannibal - Seasons 1 and 2
[DVD Hannibal]

At first I didn't think I'd like this series, too gory, possibly creating nightmares. After watching a few episodes I realized its more psychological, although there are some graphically violent visual scenes, I can look at it in a different way. Its interesting the way the characters relate to one another and try to figure each other out. After watching this, I always watch something funny. -- recommended by Kathy H. - Walt Branch Library

Remembered by Tamera Alexander

Remembered
by Tamera Alexander

I liked this historical Christian fiction book. A young lady from France comes to America in search of her father who left her Mom and her when she was very young. She enlists the aid of a man to take her to many towns by horse drawn carriage to find him. This may even become a mild romance between the lady and her driver. -- recommended by Kathy H. - Walt Branch Library

Beyond the Heavens
[DVD Beyond]

This movie was interesting. It was about a young teen who was debating with himself about science and religion. He talked with his science teacher and after school he heard stories told by a strange little man, who was reading C. S. Lewis to a group of young people. Some folk in town feared the old man would hurt the children. It was a good movie. -- recommended by Kathy H. - Walt Branch Library

Grain Brain by David Perlmutter

Grain Brain: The Surprising Truth About Wheat, Carbs and Sugar - Your Brain's Silent Killers
by David Perlmutter [613.26 Per]

This book also available on CD. I've heard a lot lately about the adverse health effects of grains and sugar in the diet. Grain Brain gives so much information about this and includes reasons to limit your carbs too; not just for gluten sensitive people. It lists supplements beneficial for brain and body health also. I'd likely ask my doctor before following too much of the author's advice though. I know that decreasing my bread eating and increasing leafy green veggies couldn't hurt me though. -- recommended by Kathy H. - Walt Branch Library
