New Booklist on BookGuide: Bennett Martin Public Library Staff - Favorite Reads in 2022

In January 2023, a new booklist was released on the Lincoln City Libraries' BookGuide readers advisory web pages, in conjunction with a new book display at the main library downtown: Bennett Martin Public Library Staff - Favorite Reads in 2022. This list was compiled from input by various staff members at the headquarters library -- in the public service area, the administration, and the support services staff in the basement.

New Booklist on the BookGuide Site: Meet Your Staff -- Bennett Martin Public Library

Since late 2021, various staff members at the downtown Bennett Martin Public Library have been featured on an ongoing book display next to the checkout desk -- Meet Your Staff. Every other week, a different staff member is featured, and the display will include some of that staff member's favorite books, DVDs, CDs and audiobooks in the library collection. For regular visitors to the downtown library, this is a means of getting to know the interests of some of the staff members they see on a regular basis.

From the beginning of this display, we've been maintaining a growing booklist, showing all the books and other materials that have been featured on this display, at the following link. This booklist continues to grow as additional new staff are given a two-week period to shine. Check out the nearly-20 staff who've already been featured, and check back to see new additions in future weeks.

Reminder -- Final Just Desserts of 2007 this Thursday!

Mystery Fans --

Just a reminder...the final Just Desserts mystery fiction discussion group meeting for 2007 will be held at Bennett Martin Public Library this Thursday at 7 p.m.. The book we'll all be discussing is Nebraska mystery author Mignon Eberhart's "The Mystery of Huntings End". We'll be taking our traditional two-month hiatus in November and December so as not to conflict with participants' holiday travel plans.

Just Desserts will return in January, and our January and February selections have already been posted to the Just Desserts page on BookGuide -- We'll be discussing James D. Doss' "Shadow Man" on January 31st, 2008, and Ngaio Marsh' "Grave Mistake" on February 28th, 2008.

Just Desserts meets the final Thursday of each month (Jan-Oct) from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Reference Reading Room (1st floor) at Bennett Martin Public Library. Participants are encouraged to all read the same book to facilitate discussion -- we alternate between "classic" and "contemporary" authors -- although we try to reserve time for general mystery discussion at the end of each meeting. Participants are also encouraged to bring a small dessert selection to share with fellow mystery fans. Drinks are provided.

Hope to see you all there!

A front page article in this morning's Lincoln Journal Star talked about the future of a downtown public library, and where it fits into downtown redevelopment and revitalization.

Feel free to read the article, then leave your comments, here on the library's BookGuide blog. There's also a comment thread attached to the article on the Lincoln Journal Star's website as well! What's your opinion on the subject?
