New Booklist on BookGuide: What is Your Favorite Book/Author - from the 2023 Pride Festival Library Booth

 

The Lincoln City Libraries was proud to staff a booth at the Star City Pride festival on June 9th and 10th, 2023, in downtown Lincoln, near the Pinnacle Bank Arena. In addition to offering library card sign-ups and promoting ongoing and upcoming library activities (including the 2023 Summer Reading Challenge), the staff at the booth had an oversized notepad, on which they encouraged festival attendees to write down their answers to the following questions:

• What Is Your Favorite Book?
• Share a Favorite Book
• What Book Have You Enjoyed?
• What Are You Reading?
• What Do You Like to Read?
• What Author Do You Love?

Festival attendees responded by filling out 17 pages of their reading preferences. This booklist web page on the libraries’ BookGuide readers advisory pages compiles most of the answers to those questions — 210 titles/series and 37 “authors you love” *. We’ve broken this list down into reading age brackets — Kids, Young Adults, and Adults. There are a lot of LGBTQ+ titles represented here — not surprising for a list gathered at a Pride event — but there’s a lot of general fiction and non-fiction as well. All titles, series or authors worth considering adding to your personal reading list!

New Lincoln Community Playhouse booklist on BookGuide for The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940

The 1987 mystery-comedy-farce The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940 is currently on stage (May 5-14, 2023) at the Lincoln Community Playhouse, neighbor to the Lincoln City Libraries' own Gere Branch Library. As we usually do, a new booklist was created to accompany a book display at the Gere Branch, featuring books that should appeal to fans of funny bit of mayhem.

The booklist includes book books and DVDs/Streaming videos that are similar in nature to the style of this play. But it also includes personal recommendations from the various cast and crew members who are involved in putting on this particular production. This booklist includes a little history of this play, plus descriptive blurbs and catalog hotlinks for each of the included books and DVDs.

New Booklist on BookGuide: Bennett Martin Public Library Staff - Favorite Reads in 2022

In January 2023, a new booklist was released on the Lincoln City Libraries' BookGuide readers advisory web pages, in conjunction with a new book display at the main library downtown: Bennett Martin Public Library Staff - Favorite Reads in 2022. This list was compiled from input by various staff members at the headquarters library -- in the public service area, the administration, and the support services staff in the basement.

Online Resource of the Month: Books, Movies & More E-mail Newsletters

As we approach the end of December 2020, the Lincoln City Libraries in Lincoln, NE don't want to miss the opportunity to point out that our Online Resource of the Month this month has been our Books, Movies & More E-mail newsletters -- a wealth of Readers Advisory recommendations online.

For several years now, the Lincoln City Libraries have made use of a service called BookLetters to provide a wide variety of booklist-formatted newsletters, which anyone can subscribe to receive in their e-mail. At present, there are over 30 newsletters available to subscribe to. Many come pre-packaged from the BookLetters company, in a standardized format, and several are custom-created by Lincoln City Libraries' staff members.

All books featured in all newsletter issues include "Check Our Catalog" links you can click, to check on the availability of titles, and/or to place holds in our on-line catalog. All books in all newsletters also feature "More Info" links, so you can see a more-detailed description of each title.

Our two most popular newsletters are New Books on Order, and New DVDs, which give you a monthly sampler of titles we think are going to be popular in next few months -- place holds on hot new titles before most customers are even aware the books are coming out! Or check out the "custom newsletters" at the end of this list, in which various library staff from throughout Lincoln give you their personal reading, listening and viewing recommendations, with their own personal commentaries!

If you're still not convinced, and would like to sample just one single newsletter before subscribing to more, may we recommend Book Sizzle -- it is a weekly newsletter that includes special focuses on hot topics in the news, recent award announcements, and highlights from (and links to) several of the 30+ other newsletters that you can connect to without subscribing to them directly. One stop shopping, so to speak!
